Celebrating Women in Aviation Year-Round
Technically speaking, March is Women in Aviation Month but we have the distinct privilege of celebrating all year as we watch two of our phenomenal instructors combine their love of STEM-based education in aviation with the art of teaching. We were thrilled to add Meredith Shyvinck, CFI, CFII, MEI and Bailey Cohara, CFI, CFII, MEI to our staff in 2024 and we have watched our students thrive under their instruction.
As of the end of 2023, there were 9,071 women with US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificates as airline pilots. This is an 11% increase from 2022 and an 87% increase(!) from 2003. Women represent about 9% of plots worldwide at the time of this post. As you can see, the trend of women entering aviation careers is on an extreme upward trend and we love to see it!
If you have a granddaughter, daughter, niece, or anyone in your family who has an interest in STEM and might not have given any thought to becoming a pilot, it can be a dream career that many never thought of for themselves. If you have any questions about what it’s like to undertake the training required for a career in flight or if you have always wanted to pursue aviation for your own personal gratification, we can take you from pedestrian to pilot just like we have for so many already.
Feel free to call or text us at 515-337-2159, or reach out via one of our Contact Forms and we will schedule a free, no-pressure tour to give you a fuller understanding of how to make aviation a part of your life.
